My kind of science fiction, I really liked this.A sinister eXperiment that, as it unfolds, has the reader trying to figure out: Do the subjects have connections? What objectives does the eXperiment have? What technology is being used? Who is behind it? What happened to the world outside the eXperiment?.
These questions compelled me to the next page. Trying to figure out the mysteries. A good mix science and future. Blurred lines between who is good and who is bad. A view into why people are compelled to do evil things.
I liked it for what it hinted at as much as what was resolved.
Keep 'em coming Lucas.

BoX Would you survive the experiment? The Midas Series Volume 2 Lucas Heath 9781500687090 Books Reviews
Quick fun read, great for an author's first book, kept me entertained. Had a few loose ends or inconsistencies but nothing major, better than a lot of other books I have read recently!
Twisted plot with a twist in the end. Great attention to detail...even the smallest description of the characters and their surroundings. I felt like I was there. Thanks so much and looking forward to your next novel!
In this thriller a group of people are kidnapped and forced into a series of test with deadly consequences. At first BoX reminded me of the movie Cube but as it progress you realize this is quite different and worth reading.
Different and intriguing. What seems to be a gruesome experiment is really just a ploy... 27 people thrown together to help modify an artificial intelligence system... only one person in the box will make it out alive....
This was a well written book. The story has been done before, and I'm sure, it will be done again. I know this is the start of a series of books, and I can say that I will not be along for the ride. Like I said, "it's been done."
There are so many books out there that I often feel nonplussed when I'm told that the story is gripping. The Box actually was...
The story makes you think while it entertains. Not an easy task.
It is a short read at just over 100 pages ... so think outside THE BOX and try it.
The plot deals with a social experiment - think of the Prisoner's Dilemma, on steroids. I read it in a hour, while waiting at a doctor's office, and it filled the time, but it was very unsatisfying. The premise was strained, with 27 "prisoners" in a box, along with 2 scientists. The most interesting characters didn't get covered enough to make them really interesting, and the social fabric used for the premise felt like it was casually explained. The ending was predictable in some cases, and very unsatisfying in others.
The concept that someone would actually try a socially unacceptable experiment like this could become very interesting if explored in depth, as how people who are closely involved with it might react. Instead, the social reaction/rejection was primarily focused on two people, and it was done very bluntly. Very little time was spent on the "What, Where, Why and How." And that which was discussed didn't seem believable.
Character inter-reaction was generally heavy handed, or shallow/obvious. Perhaps the extended short story format was the problem. With 29 characters, there wasn't enough time to make characters interesting or have more depth, and the premise (the duration of the experiment) was too short for more elaborate social interactions. If the story was longer, the experiment would drag on too long and become unbearable.
It's as if each character could be summarized in a paragraph, with a couple of the characters requiring a full page. And then the plot wove the characters, technology and premise together. But none of them are really that interesting. Most of the characters are stereotypes, and I was never surprised by any of their actions.
There are a few surprises, they don't really seem satisfying. I finished the story, but I really didn't care too much at the end. I just wanted to see if it would end in an interesting way.
